Telescopes Sale Would the Bushnell Sportview 15-45x50 be any good for stargazing?
I have a $150 tripod and I just found this Bushnell Sportview 15-45x50 at a garage sale this morning.
Wondering if it would be any decent for stargazing?
All I really care about is astronomy as far as telescopes go, so I'm wondering if I should just chuck this or if it'll be useful?
Cost $15
You don't want to use zoom binoculars for stargazing. Poor field of view, optical quality and since they are used, you might be buying someone else's reason to sell them in the first place.
They might be ok for daytime use, at the lower magnifications.
The usual type of binoculars are something like 7x50's or 10x50's.
Hi my son loves hunting for and recording UFO sightings etc so for Xmas I would really like to put him together a UFO hunting kit, does anyone know of any items for sale either in the uk or USA etc such as a UFO sighting record book, sky maps small telescopes etc or even better a UFO hunters kit, any suggestions would be great thanks so even fairly steeply priced or cheaper items would all be of interest thanks for your help anyone xx
UFO hunters falls in the same category as "time travel machines" or "telepathic mind readers". They are a hoax.
Instead of having your son wasting his time on something completely futile and unproductive, why don't you steer his curiosity towards something useful.
Astronomy can be a very educational hobby. You can start by giving your son a pair of good binoculars and a good book. You don't say how old is he, but if he is in middle school, then Turn Left at Orion by Guy Consolmagno and a pair of 7x50 or 10x50 binoculars would do the trick and won't break your bank account.
Stay away from cheap telescopes. Anything under $250-300 dollars is a waste of money and may turn him away from an otherwise great learning experience.
