which are the largest telescopes a civilian can buy?
not being an astronomer
i have all the money in the world to buy it dont worry(not really i just want to know)
You can buy a 36 inch telescope (0.9 metres) for about $350000 dollars, although you would need an observatory building, which I believe is $17500 dollars.
Also the largest telescopes are bought by astronomers but they are not professionals. There are three in America with 20 inch telescopes, Rob Gendler (http://www.robgendlerastropics.com), Russell Croman (http://www.rc-astro.com) and R. Jay GaBany (http://www.cosmotography.com).
All these are regular people with regular jobs but they have managed to afford these massive scopes.
