Meade Telestar

i have a telescope question?

ok well i love learning about space and stuff and about 8 years ago (im 13) i got a telescope but i have no idea how to use it.
its a telestar by meade the model is 60 AZ-D then is says D=60mm F=700mm.
i have three lenses: SR 4 mm, F12.5 mm, H25mm.
alright hope that's enough info ok so how do i use it? and what can i see with those lenses?
don't put something like "ask your parents" cuz they don't know any thing about space
don't put something like "ask your parents" cuz they don't know any thing about space
sorry dont know why that was put up there twice

Well, ..., To maximize the scope's performance, try the following:

A) Set the scope up during the day in accordance w/the user manual. If necessary watch some YouTube videos on setting it up. This way you'll know how to set it up w/o fumbling around at night.

B) Align the finder w/the main scope.
- During daylight hours center the top of a far off light pole in your main scope.
- Adjust the spotter scope so the cross-hairs are centered on the object (as best as possible) in your main scope.
- Using you finder scope move the scope to another far off light pole & center the finder scope on the top of the light pole.
- Look into your main scope the top of the light pole should be centered in the scope. If not, repeat the steps above until you can center a far away object with your finder scope & have it appear centered in your main scope. You must get this right else finding deep sky objects will be very difficult.

C) Make sure the scope is collimated. This will keep objects crisp and clear wen focused. (Source links 2 & 3 below)

D) Download (free) Stellarium (see source link 1 below). Use it to locate objects you wish to observe before you go out at night. Two easy objects to find are the Moon & Saturn (in the constellation Virgo near Gamma Virginis).

E) Many deep sky objects are visible to the naked eye but, not all are. You will need to learn how to star hop. "Turn Left at Orion" is a great book for star hopping.
Use your finder scope to find the general location that you want to look in. Use your 26mm Plossl (in your focuser) for finding the object with your main scope. Some other easy late spring objects are The Ring Nebula (M57) - Lyra, Dumbell nebula (M27) - Vulpecula, & The Great Cluster (M13) - Hercules. Don't get frustrated if you can't find these objects at first. I had difficulty when I first started so give yourself some time.

F) The Astronomical League (Source Link 4, 5, & 6 below) has some great challenge programs for beginners.

G) Again, your local astronomy club can be a great source for helping you to learn how to use a scope. Some clubs like the Raleigh Astronomy Club (www.raleighastro.org) offer free telescope tune-up clinics to help you get your scope up & running in tip-top condition.

Meade Polaris
I need help on choosing a telescope?

I have a budget of $2000 to choose a scope. I'm planning on getting a semi visual and photography scope. I'm planning on getting the Meade LT 8 ACF scope. Any other recommendations for me. Unfortunately I can't get a EQ mount scope for astrophotography because there is a mountain blocking Polaris from my view.

And if I'm using a alt azimuth mount. How do I take pictures of nebulas ? How do I get rid of field rotation?

I really need advice. Thanks

And I'm no beginner I have a 8" dob at home and used it often already. ThankS

You don't have to be able to see Polaris to polar align an equatorial mount. I've not been able to see Polaris from a couple of my best observing sites, and it's never caused a problem. The software for the latest Celestron equatorial mounts allows you to polar align on _any_ star.

Before you invest in an SCT or similar (ACF) telescope, give some careful thought to the kind of objects you wish to image. If you look at the images published in the major astronomy magazines, you'll see that very few of them nowadays are taken with long focal length SCTs or similar, Most imaging today is being done with apochromatic refractors because of their faster focal ratios and large flat fields of view. Do some _research_ before you blow your budget on a totally inappropriate telescope for what you want to do. Talk to the guys who are actually doing imaging today to find out what equipment they are using. Join a club with an active imaging group, and pick their brains.

Best Reflector Telescope
Best Reflector Telescope
whats the best Orion reflector telescope i can buy between 200-400 dollars?

i am a beginner and i am looking to buy a telescope that will help me see the moon and other planet so clear that if there is a foot step on the moon i wanna be able to see or anything near that size. and i wanna be able to see the ring around Saturn and anything that's out there.
i don't mind if there is any problem caring it around if its really good.
cast rang about 200-400 dollars.it should be Orion reflector.
btw does that also mean i can see people climbing mountains as well?
best answer 10points!
also please let me know if your a professional or not, what kind of telescope your using, whats the difference between yours and the one you are recommending, how good and how clear is your telescope and what can you see and any tip you would like to share will be appreciated.
thank you.

I am an amateur astronomer (belong to an astronomy club as well). I do some astrophotography (some pics are in my profile). The telescopes I own are a Celestron CPC 800, a WO Megrez 110 w/CGEM mount, an Orion Short Tube I use only for guiding and 2 sets of binoculars. My qualifications are less than some of the people here who have been doing this for 10, 20, 30 years or more.

My scopes have GoTo functions, but there are people who advocate a Dobsonian mount. For whatever reasons (with which I totally disagree), a Dobsonian is NOT a good beginner scope for EVERYONE. Here are the pros and cons:

=======================================
PROS
1. They are inexpensive as compared to other scopes
2. They are easy to set up.
3. They don't require a lot of accessories
4. They facilitate you learning the night sky

CONS
1. They are pretty much a "plain-vanilla" scope. Other than observing, there isn't much flexibility to do anythig else (like astrophotography)
2. Most Dobs (especially at the lower price range) won't track your object. Walk away from it for any period of time or just slightly bump the scope and you have lost your target.
3. You'll find yourself in various positions (sometimes contortions) trying to look through the eyepiece.
4. Again, with most Dobs at the lower price range, if you don't know the night sky very well, you will spend a LOOONG time searching for your targets b/c there is no "GoTo" function.

Personally, I enjoy using the GoTo technology. I can't be bothered star hopping for 10-15 minutes to find my targets. I prefer to find what I'm looking for and move on. To me, using GoTo technology as opposed to using a Dob is like using a pen and paper rather than my computer to write documents. Use the technology. That's why it was developed (although star hopping with binoculars isn't too bad b/c you have a wider field of vision). The unfortunate part of having a GoTo scope is that computerized scopes do have a HIGHER cost, especially as your mirror-size increases.
==============================

There are quite a few factors to consider when purchasing a telescope, but the main thing to keep in mind is that it’s an investment of which you will want to be very selective. Some of the considerations of purchasing a telescope:
•What is your budget?
•Will you be transporting the telescope to viewing sites or making a permanent station for it at home?
•If transporting it, what is the maximum weight you can personally carry and will it fit securely into your vehicle without risking damage?
•What is the level of your interest in astronomy and how much time are you willing to devote to learning correct operation of the telescope?
•Is there a possibility that your future interests might include astrophotography?
•Is there adequate and safe space in your residence for the size of telescope you are interested in buying?
•Are you interested in planetary viewing, deep-sky (galaxies, nebula, etc.) or both?
•Do you want the telescope to locate and track objects for you or do you prefer to locate the objects yourself?

These are just a few of the questions you will need to answer before purchasing a telescope. It should be given as much thought and consideration as purchasing a car.

You can get the Celestron Nexstar 130 computerized scope for betw. $300-400. It will locate and track objects.

http://www.telescopes.com/telescopes/reflecting-telescopes/celestronnexstar130slttelescope.cfm

However, if you choose to get a Dob, the mirror size will admittedly be much larger. I've never worked with Orion 8 Intelliscope, but it is around $300 and it is a Dob that will LOCATE the object for you, BUT it won't track it. The mirror isze is 8" as compared to 5" with the Celestron.

http://www.telescope.com/control/product/~category_id=060608eontest/~pcategory=telescopes/~product_id=99183/~sSearchSession=6e5c2bf6-b8d0-407b-9840-09f90aa2b893

It's a lot to think about b/c there are so many choices and scopes with different features. Whatever you buy, there are going to be trade-offs. I suggest you read what is at this link before you decide and buy:

Hope the best for you and Clear Skies!

When I look into my telescope I see myself?

This is probably a stupid question, but when I look into my my telescope I see my own eye :L

These are the details on the telescope that I have an I hope it helps:
For one its a reflector telescope
The model is a 'Start Tracker 76' (not the words best telescope, but will do it's job till I can save up and get an awesome one :P )
76mm primary mirror
1x20 mm lower power
1x12mm high power

I have a felling that one of my mirrors have moved when I was opening, well to be honest I have no idea.

Thanks - Louise
Someone answer :L Pleassse I wan't to go out and look at the sky tonight :)

The only way you could see your eye in the telescope would be if you don't have one of the eyepieces in place. Then you would see your eye in the reflection of the eyepiece holder as you look through it without an eyepiece. Put the 20mm eyepiece in the eyepiece holder, and then try looking through it. Try it out in daylight first, looking at objects at least 1/4 mile away (but NOT the Sun!)

Is what you're seeing actually an eye, or is it just a white circle with a black dot in the middle? If the latter, your telescope is _way_ out of focus. Adjust the focus knob until the "eye" becomes very small.

[Edit] Some reflectors come with a two-part lens cap, like a doughnut and its hole. Be sure to remove both parts of the lens cap so that the entire front end of the telescope is open.
