iPad tripod mount works well on steering wheel of car

Which glue should I use for my tripod mounting plate that screws onto the camera base?


My tripod has a metal mounting plate that screws into the camera base then locks onto the tripod head itself.
The protective rubber on the metal mounting plate prevents major scratches on the camera base came unglued.
Has anyone had this happen & which glue is best for gluing rubber to metal?

DO NOT use gorilla glue!! that person is obviously to stupid to realize there are different glues for different jobs,,,monkey glue is not for metal and rubber!! use a rubber glue like shoe goo,,, or goo3000 or goo5000 etc,,,some house hold glues are of a rubbery type,,, just read the labels,,,,,

What should I get, an Orion Xt10 or Xt8 Computerized intelliscope?


Here are the specs for the xt10

If my research is correct. It lead me to believe that the XT10 will make dim objects brighter than through the XT8 but the XT8 will show more detail because it has a higher resolving power. Which one do you suggest? Is there any more information I should no?
The resolving powers are wrong, they are reversed

XT8 Resolving Power= .57arc*sec
XT10 Resolving Power= .46arc*sec

as long as you can afford it and lift it (not something to take lightly...), buy the 10.

seeing is almost always limited by the atmosphere anyway.

Great scope! Well, in the world of eyepieces (as in the world in general) you get what you pay for. If I were you, I would save my money and buy one single good quality, low power, wide field eyepiece instead of several marginal ones. If you buy a good one, you will use it all the time. I think you should consider a 2 inch at 30 - 35 mm focal length. The best ones out there are provided by Televue, at the following site:

Over the years, I have gradually replaced all of my old eyepieces with Televue Naglers. The 82 degree apparent field of view makes you feel like you're falling into the scope, and the optics are simply the best. They are expensive, but again I would just go for a single low power wide field one for now. Panoptics are almost as good as Naglers, and Televue just does not make any cheap quality eyepieces. So anything you find at this site you will probably like. In fact, you will think you have a new telescope.

My own experience with Barlows has been less than wonderful. They tend to be optically inferior, and they are a pain in the neck to use.

What would be a good starter telescope for around $100.?


First of all, be aware that you will only get a very basic telescope for this money. It's worth considering alternatives such as binoculars or saving a bit longer to get a better telescope.

There are only a very few telescopes worth considering in this price range -- most of the others are toys.

What makes all of these scopes stand out is their smooth solid Dobsonian-style mounts, as distinct from the wobbly tripod mounts on the competition. In this price range, slight differences in price make for major differences in quality, so concentrate on items towards the bottom of the list.

For just slightly more money you can get a 6-inch reflector on a true Dobsonian mount.

Buy from a store which specializes in telescopes and astronomy, either locally or online; don't buy from department stores, discount stores or eBay as mostly what they sell is junk. Find your local astronomy club and try out different telescopes at one of their star parties:

I strongly recommend that beginners steer clear of astrophotography until they have learned their way around the sky. Astrophotography is by far the most expensive and difficult area of amateur astronomy.

Many people who buy telescopes have no idea how to find interesting things to observe. A good introduction to finding things is NightWatch by Terence Dickinson (Firefly). A more advanced book is Star Watch by Phil Harrington (Wiley).

What brand and model is a nice inexpensive starter telescope. I understand the more you spend the better the pictures. I would like to be able to see galaxies.

You are going to get more accurate and helpful info if you post in the correct category. There are astrophotographers out there, but I doubt there are many here.
