skywatcher telescope

i want to buy a 80mm skywatcher refractor short tube telescope.is it a good scope?
I have owned that telescope. It's a good value for the money, and there is plenty to see with it.
It's great for observing the Moon and open star clusters. It will show you the rings of Saturn and the moons and major cloud bands on Jupiter. On a good night, you may be able to see one of Mars' polar caps.
You'll never run out of objects to observe with the 80mm Short Tube, but even so there are some things only a larger scope can show you. That's one of the interesting things about astronomy -- there is always more to see!
As others have said, a steady mount is very important. Fortunately, the 80mm Short Tube is a lightweight scope, and the mounts that usually come with it are adequate. Not great, but good enough.

moon drifting using skywatcher telescope 130 20 may 21:30pm
What can I expect from a telescope?
I just purchased a SkyWatcher 130mm Newtonian Reflector Telescope
on Ebay.I will receive it an a few days. I have no experience with such a device and wonder what realistic expectations may be. With a 130 mm reflector and a good eyepiece, can I expect to see Pluto, Mars or the rings of Saturn?
http://www.myastroshop.com.au/products/details.asp?id=MAS-060B
You cannot see Pluto with such a small telescope.
You can easily see the rings of Saturn.
Mars will probably not show much to you in that telescope. Mars is a tough target!
Jupiter will look great in it. Jupiter is the really bright star you can see tonight and for the next few weeks.

Reflecting Telescopes

what kind of lenses are in reflecting and refracting telescopes and bonoculars?
Binoculars and refracting telescopes generally use objective lenses composed of two or more elements, which can be convex or concave and may be made of materials with different refractive indices. The purpose of multielement lenses is to minimize the effects of refraction, since different wavelengths of light would otherwise come to focus at different distances from the lens.
Reflecting telescopes use mirrors to focus light. There are many possible configurations, and the mirrors can be concave, convex, or flat depending on the specific type of telescope.
There are also catadioptric telescopes, which use both lenses and mirrors, and the Schmidt-Cassegrain design is very popular among amateur astronomers.

best beginner telescope
Which is the best space telescope?
I want to look at what space has to offer. Can you please tell me which telescope can explore the sky/planets efficiently and for beginners? Thanks.
A dobsonian telescope will give you the most telescope for your money. These are Newtonian reflectors on simple alt-azimuth (tilt & swivel) mounts. Get as much aperture as you can afford and handle. More aperture means being able to see fainter objects and finer detail. Many people find an 8" scope a good choice.
Orion Telescope & Binoculars has some good beginner dobs. Zhumell is another brand with good values in this area.

A good telescope for a 'beginner'?
We used to have a telescope, but it was extremely difficult to use. I was wondering what the best telescope is that is easy to use.
Without a doubt, the easiest scope i've ever used is the astroscan. It sets up in a few seconds. There's nothing to align. Stable mount. It just works. About $200.
http://scientificsonline.com/product.asp_Q_pn_E_3002001
The first problem you find with it is that you have to know the skies. There are three ways to learn it.
1. Buy books & charts and study (and find out by trial and error that you can't see galaxies and faint stuff from the city). This will help.
http://www.skymaps.com/downloads.htm
2. Join an astronomy club and let them show you what to look for and how to find it.
http://www.skyandtelescope.com/community/organizations
3. Buy a scope with a computer that will help you find stuff. Two scopes, $400 and $700.
http://www.telescope.com/control/product/~category_id=dobsonians/~pcategory=telescopes/~product_id=27182
http://www.telescope.com/control/product/~category_id=dobsonians/~pcategory=telescopes/~product_id=27184
These scopes have quick setup. 3 minutes for me. They fit in your car. They aren't very heavy (the 10" has a part that's 27 lbs). They have very stable mounts (which was what probably drove you nuts last time). What do you get for $700? You get the largest scope that will fit in your car with short setup time. You get to see fainter objects.
