The first telescope is a toy, with the worst possible eyepieces, and the second scope is even cheaper. Decent telescopes capable of giving acceptable views of the moon, planets, and brighter galaxies and nebulae start at around $200, so either save your money for a real telescope or buy a pair of 7x50 binoculars. If you're just starting out, binoculars are an excellent choice. Since you're looking directly at the sky and seeing an erect image with a wide field of view, it's much easier to familiarize yourself with the sky than it would be with a telescope, and many observers use both.

How do I determine my Telescope's Focal Length?
Well I really don't exactly know what telescope I have, I know it's a Meade telescope, but I don't know the model. But, anyways, how would I find out the telescope's focal length? Please I need this to check my eyepiece magnifications.
Its usually stamped or printed on the tube or focuser somewhere. probably some number between 800 and 1200
Measure from the objective to the eyepiece with a tape and convert that to mm. There should be a number somewhere that corresponds, roughly, to your measured number
Best Dobsonian Telescopes best I'm on a 600 dollar budget, what is the best telescope to buy at this budget?
I was looking at a 10 dobsonian. Do you guys have anyother ideas?
Your actually doing a good thing by asking and stating a price. Your 90% ahead of the rest of those who ask "what sort of scope to get", or worse "I just got this scope, is it any good"?
Along with the others - getting a telescope is a matter of preference. There is no one perfect solution - just what works best for you right now.
One other option is to find and join an astronomy club in your local area. Go to a star party and see what people use. Ask questions of the scope owners and ask to use their scopes. Get a feel for how the scope moves for you and how well you can figure out how to use it. Don't worry (to much) about finding stuff, that comes with practice. Your looking to see how the scope works for you.
One thing I tell people too, is that owning a scope is sort of like owning a boat - you'll always want to accessorize it. the nice thing is that things like eyepieces, books and other accessories can generally be transferred to a new scope as your experience level grows. Don't assume that the scope you buy is the one you'll keep forever.

Telescope Mounts what is the best refractor telescope i can get for astrophotography that is under $2500?
what is the best refractor telescope i can get for astrophotography that is under $2500? i am set on getting a high quality refractor and i am looking for suggestions for a few really high quality ones for under that price. I already have a high quality equitorial mount and a camera. thanks
$2500 should buy you a good 90mm apochromat, with a little change left over. I'm not sure there's a clear winner, but some brands to consider are Takahashi, William Optics, Stellarvue, TMB, and TeleVue. Depending on the size of your detector, you may want a field flattener also. Buying used is a good way to make your money go further. Astromart (http://www.astromart.com/classifieds/list.asp?classified_group_id=1 ) is well worth the modest sign-up fee.

HUGE 200" TELESCOPE ~ INSIDE AN OBSERVATORY ~ MOUNT PALOMAR
Need help with an equitorial telescope mount!!!?
Does anyone know in great detail how to find and view objects with an equatorial mount? I kind of understand the polar alignment but how does it work beyond that? I'm at 40N Lat. I guest I don't understand how to view objects after polar alignment. What if the object is above my head? I am a very new at this a really love astronomy. I just can't seem to find the resources I need to fully grasp the concepts of a German equatorial mounting system.
Once the scope is polar aligned, don't change that setting. Use only the altitude/ azimuth adjusters (left-right, up-down for you ground-hogs). They are tilted to correspond to the tilt of the Earth under your feet relative to the north star. You may view any object above the horizon, but you may have to bend and stoop a bit, or stand on a short platform. Welcome to star-gazing! We amatuer astronomers put up with a lot for our hobby-ten degree weather, dim red lights to see by, etc. So worth it! Don't worry about the numbers on the 'setting circles', that's scientific glitz. Practice using the system, and it will start to come to you-slow and frustrating at first, then second-nature. Clear skies.
